Summary

Plume centreline temperature above a 5,000 kW lubricating oil pool fire with the virtual origin (0.44 m) and with the virtual origin set to zero. Based on Iqbal and Salley (2004), pp. 9-10 to 9-11, and Heskestad (2002), p. 2-6.

Original illustration for Virtual origin, level 4 Expert.

  • Source basis: Iqbal and Salley (2004), p. 9-10 (example result 244 °C) and p. 9-11 (input values, z0 = 0.44 m); Heskestad (2002), p. 2-6 (plume temperature law) and p. 2-7 (not valid at and below the mean flame height)
  • Alt text: Line chart: plume centreline temperature falls with height; the curve with the virtual origin lies above the one without it, mostly near the fire.
