Summary

Sprinklers and roof vents in one curtained compartment. The ceiling jet triggers both; the sprays cool and mix the smoke layer that the vents remove. Based on Cooper (2002b), pp. 3-219, 3-236 to 3-237 and 3-239.

Original illustration for Sprinkler-vent interaction, level 4 Expert.

  • Source basis: Cooper (2002b), p. 3-219 (venting definition, warehouse-type space with draft curtains, Figure 3-9.1: redraw, do not copy), pp. 3-236 to 3-237 (spray cooling reduces vent flow; cooling and dilution by spray-driven mixing), p. 3-239 (fusible links of vents and sprinklers heated by the ceiling jet), p. 3-223 (low-level inlet area of 1.5 to 2 times the vent area)
  • Alt text: Cross-section of a storage building with roof vents, draft curtains, a smoke layer, a fire plume and two operating sprinklers.
