Summary

Heat balance of a fully developed room fire: heat released by combustion warms the gases, flows into the walls, floor and ceiling, and leaves through the opening as radiation and hot gas. Based on Lie (2002), p. 4-202, and Australian Building Codes Board (2005), p. 2.6-3.

Original illustration for Parametric fire curve, level 4 Expert.

  • Source basis: Lie (2002), p. 4-202, Figure 4-8.2 (heat balance terms; redraw, do not copy); Australian Building Codes Board (2005), p. 2.6-3 (radiation and convective losses through openings, conduction into boundaries)
  • Alt text: Cross-section of a burning room with arrows for heat released, heat stored in the gas, heat into the walls and heat leaving through the window.
