Summary

Mean flame height from Heskestad's correlation for fires 0.5 m and 1.21 m across. Below about 63 kW the 1.21 m fire gives a negative height, where the correlation is not valid. Based on Heskestad (2002), p. 2-3.

Original vector illustration for Hand calculations, level 2 Intermediate.

  • Source basis: Heskestad (2002), p. 2-3 (Equation 8, validity remark); p. 2-4 (Example 3)
  • Alt text: Two rising curves of flame height against heat release rate for fire diameters of 0.5 m and 1.21 m; the larger fire starts below zero at small outputs.
