Fse-fractional-effective-concentration-v2.svg (SVG file, nominally 900 × 600 pixels, file size: 8 KB)

Summary

A concentration fraction (left) follows the concentration of the moment, while a dose fraction (right) keeps growing with the area under the curve. Based on Purser (2002), pp. 2-88–2-89.

Original illustration for Fractional effective concentration, level 4 Expert.

  • Source basis: Purser (2002), p. 2-88 (FED, Eq. 4, fractions summed over the exposure) and p. 2-89 (FIC, Eq. 5, concentration at time t); Purser (2002), pp. 2-87–2-88 (irritant effects depend on concentration, not dose).
  • Alt text: Two graphs of one rising and falling gas concentration: left, the fraction follows the curve; right, the shaded area keeps growing.
