Summary

Effect of temperature on the flammable range of a liquid's vapour in air; the flash point is where the saturated vapour reaches the lower limit. Based on Beyler (2002b), p. 2-174 (Figure 2-7.5, redraw, do not copy), and Simmons (2002), p. 1-147.

Original vector illustration for Flammability limits, level 2 Intermediate.

  • Source basis: Beyler (2002b), p. 2-174 (Figure 2-7.5 and text: limits widen with temperature, flash point TL, upper limit temperature TU, closed tank above TU too rich; redraw, do not copy); Simmons (2002), p. 1-147 (Figure 1-9.3, flash point at the lean limit)
  • Alt text: Schematic chart: lower and upper limit lines widening with temperature, crossed by a rising vapour pressure curve that marks the flash point.
