Summary

An event tree follows the fire forward in time; a fault tree gives the probability that the sprinkler branch fails. Based on National Research Council of Canada et al. (2005), p. 2.2-4 and Barry (2002), p. 5-190.

Original illustration for Fault tree analysis, level 4 Expert.

  • Source basis: National Research Council of Canada et al. (2005), p. 2.2-4 (event trees for scenario identification; fault trees to calculate and assign event probabilities; event tree with sprinkler success and failure branches); Barry (2002), p. 5-190 (general fault tree support framework: OR of equipment-related, operational and external failures) and p. 5-188; redraw, do not copy
  • Alt text: Event tree from fire start with a sprinkler branch; a fault tree below, with an OR gate over three failure groups, gives the probability of the No branch.
