Summary

Detonation cell widths of stoichiometric gas-air mixtures at atmospheric pressure and room temperature; a smaller cell means a mixture that can detonate in smaller spaces. Based on Zalosh (2002), p. 3-412, Table 3-16.4.

Original vector illustration for Detonation, level 2 Intermediate.

  • Source basis: Zalosh (2002), p. 3-412, Table 3-16.4 and text (range about 1 cm to about 28 cm; smaller at higher pressure and temperature; fuel-rich values up to 40 % smaller)
  • Alt text: Bar chart of detonation cell widths: acetylene about 1 cm, hydrogen 1.5 cm, ethylene 2.8 cm, propane 6.9 cm, methane 28 cm.
