Fse-beam-smoke-detector-v2.svg (SVG file, nominally 900 × 600 pixels, file size: 7 KB)

Summary

Intermediate stratification in an atrium: the smoke stops below a warm layer under the glazed roof, so a beam is placed below that height to intercept the plume. Based on Milke (2002b), pp. 4-304 to 4-305.

Original vector illustration for Beam smoke detector, level 2 Intermediate.

  • Source basis: Milke (2002b), p. 4-304 (intermediate stratification, glazed roofs, solar load, floor-to-ceiling differences of about 50 °C) and p. 4-305 (beam detectors below the stratification height; Figures 4-13.13 and 4-13.14, redraw, do not copy); Schifiliti et al. (2002), p. 4-27 (stratification where plume temperature equals surrounding air)
  • Alt text: Atrium cross-section: a warm air layer under the glazed roof stops the smoke plume halfway; a beam below that height crosses the plume.
