Summary

The same plume mass rate gives a different volume rate when the smoke temperature changes. Based on Milke (2002), pp. 4-298–4-303, and Cooper (2002), pp. 3-221–3-222.

Original illustration for Atrium smoke control, level 3 Advanced.

  • Source basis: Milke (2002), pp. 4-298–4-303; Cooper (2002), pp. 3-221–3-222. Create an original visual; redraw, do not copy source figures.
  • Alt text: Calculation linking a 5 megawatt fire to smoke mass flow and separate ambient and heated-gas volume rates.
  • Accuracy notes: Use the adiabatic illustration and central plume assumptions. The small temperature rise does not establish safe visibility or toxicity.
