Summary

Method of reflection: a wall acts as a mirror, so a fire against a wall is entered as 2Q and a fire in a corner as 4Q. Based on Alpert (2002), p. 2-20, and Van Rossum (2027), §6.7.

Original illustration for Alpert correlations, level 4 Expert.

  • Source basis: Alpert (2002), p. 2-20 (method of reflection, 2Q for a wall, 4Q for a 90-degree corner, Zukoski's finding for a circular burner touching the wall at one point); Van Rossum (2027), §6.7 (half plume against a wall behaves like a full plume with twice the heat release rate; mirror-image fire behind the wall; the book's figure of a semicircular burner, redraw, do not copy)
  • Alt text: Three plan views: a fire in the open, a half-round fire against a wall with one mirror image, and a quarter fire in a corner with three mirror images.
