Fse-deflagration-to-detonation-transition-v4.svg (SVG file, nominally 900 × 600 pixels, file size: 9 KB)

Summary

Pressure along a tube during a detonation of stoichiometric propane-air, using the approximations in the text: peak about twice the closed-vessel deflagration pressure, a plateau of 0.35 times the peak, and 2.76 times the peak after reflection from a rigid end. Based on Zalosh (2002), pp. 3-407 and 3-411.

Original illustration for Deflagration-to-detonation transition, level 4 Expert.

  • Source basis: Zalosh (2002), p. 3-411 (PCJ = 2 Pm; plateau 0.35 PCJ; reflection 2.76 PCJ; Figure 3-16.7, redraw, do not copy) and p. 3-407 (Pmax of propane)
  • Alt text: Pressure profile along a tube with a sharp peak at the detonation front, a lower plateau behind it and a higher reflected peak at a closed end.
