Fse-deflagration-to-detonation-transition-v3.svg (SVG file, nominally 900 × 600 pixels, file size: 12 KB)

Summary

Critical pipe diameters derived from the detonation cell width: below one third of the cell width a detonation cannot propagate along a pipe, and below 13 cell widths it cannot pass from a pipe into a larger volume. The line marks a 1 cm fuel line. Based on Zalosh (2002), p. 3-412.

Original illustration for Deflagration-to-detonation transition, level 4 Expert.

  • Source basis: Zalosh (2002), p. 3-412 (Table 3-16.4 and the Sc/3 and 13 Sc criteria) and p. 3-413 (Example 6, 1 cm fuel line)
  • Alt text: Chart of two critical pipe diameters for nine gases on a logarithmic axis, with a vertical line at 1 cm.
