Summary

Pressure in a tube during a detonation: a sharp peak at the front, a plateau of about 0.35 times the peak behind it, and about 2.76 times the peak when the wave reflects from a rigid closed end. Based on Zalosh (2002), p. 3-411.

Original vector illustration for Detonation, level 2 Intermediate.

  • Source basis: Zalosh (2002), p. 3-411 (Figure 3-16.7, redraw, do not copy; plateau 0.35 PCJ; reflected 2.76 PCJ at rigid end; rarefaction at open end); Iqbal and Salley (2004), p. 16-9 (abrupt increase of pressure at the shock front)
  • Alt text: Tube with a detonation front and a pressure graph: sharp peak at the front, lower plateau behind, higher reflected peak at a closed end.
