Fse-critical-water-application-rate-v4.svg (SVG file, nominally 900 × 600 pixels, file size: 10 KB)

Summary

Schematic relation between application rate and fire control time, as found in aviation foam tests: no control below the critical rate, little gain above about 4.1 L/(m²·min) for AFFF. Based on Scheffey (2002), pp. 4-100 to 4-101.

Original illustration for Critical water application rate, level 4 Expert.

  • Source basis: Scheffey (2002), p. 4-100 (critical application rate definition; asymptotic rates; Figure 4-4.4) and p. 4-101 (Figure 4-4.6 note: no control at 0.03 gpm/ft²); the trend follows Figure 4-4.4 on p. 4-100: redraw, do not copy
  • Alt text: Schematic curve: fire control time falls steeply above a critical application rate and levels off at higher rates.
