Summary

Temperature in the uncharred wood below the char front from the power-law profile, for thermal penetration depths of 33 mm and 40 mm and an initial temperature of 25 °C. The shaded band is the 7 mm zero-strength layer. Based on White (2002), pp. 4-266 to 4-267.

Original illustration for Reduced cross-section method, level 4 Expert.

  • Source basis: White (2002), p. 4-266 (Equation 25, penetration depths 33 mm and 40 mm), p. 4-267 (zero-strength layer); initial temperature 25 °C taken from the reference temperature of Figure 4-11.5 on p. 4-266
  • Alt text: Two curves of wood temperature falling from 300 °C at the char front to 25 °C at 33 mm and at 40 mm depth, with the first 7 mm shaded.
