Summary

A beam smoke detector: smoke between emitter and receiver weakens the beam; the alarm follows when the received light falls below the setting. Based on Iqbal and Salley (2004), pp. 11-3 and 11-5.

Original vector illustration for Beam smoke detector, level 2 Intermediate.

  • Source basis: Iqbal and Salley (2004), p. 11-3 (obscuration principle) and p. 11-5 (beam spans the protected area, line detector); McGrattan et al. (2026), p. 109 (emitter and receiver positions); Schifiliti et al. (2002), p. 4-22 (I0, I, path length)
  • Alt text: Cross-section of a hall with an emitter on one wall, a receiver on the other and a smoke plume crossing the light beam between them.
