Fse-virtual-origin-v4.svg (SVG file, nominally 900 × 600 pixels, file size: 8 KB)

Summary

Two sign conventions: in Heskestad's correlations z0 is positive above the fuel surface; in the Hasemi model used by OZone the virtual source distance is drawn below it. Based on Heskestad (2002), p. 2-6, and Cadorin et al. (2003), pp. 443 to 444.

Original illustration for Virtual origin, level 4 Expert.

  • Source basis: Heskestad (2002), p. 2-6 (z0 elevation above the fire source, negative below); Cadorin et al. (2003), p. 443 (Hasemi correlation for z') and p. 444 (Figure 7: virtual source level below the burner, distance z' + H_F + r; redraw, do not copy)
  • Alt text: Two sketches of a fire: on the left z0 is measured upwards from the fuel, on the right the Hasemi virtual source distance is measured downwards.
