Summary

Smoke from a 5 MW fire spills from under a 3 m balcony and rises as a line plume; the calculation uses an imaginary line source 1.7 m below the balcony edge. Based on Cooper (2002b), pp. 3-231 to 3-232.

Original illustration for Line plume, level 4 Expert.

  • Source basis: Cooper (2002b), p. 3-231 (example 5 set-up: 5 MW, 4 m², balcony width 3 m, height 3 m, 65 % convective) and p. 3-232 (Figure 3-9.12, redraw, do not copy; 12.0 kg/s, 722 kW/m, source 1.7 m below the balcony, 7.6 kg/(m·s), 34.2 kg/s)
  • Alt text: Cross-section: a fire plume hits the underside of a balcony, flows to its edge and rises as a line plume from an imaginary source 1.7 m below the edge.
