Summary

A fire that spreads as a circle at a steady flame speed and burns at a constant rate per unit area: the radius grows with time, the area and heat release rate with time squared. Based on Iqbal and Salley (2004), p. B-4.

Original vector illustration for T-squared fire, level 2 Intermediate.

  • Source basis: Iqbal and Salley (2004), p. B-4 (constant heat release rate per unit area, circular spread with steadily increasing radius); Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (2013), p. 55 (constant flame speed)
  • Alt text: Left: plan view of a fire spreading as circles of radius 1, 2 and 3 units. Right: matching bars of burning area and heat release rate of 1, 4 and 9 units.
