Summary

Aerosol-based extinction and fuel-based mass optical density use different denominators. Based on Mulholland (2002), pp. 2-263–2-266.

Original illustration for Optical density, level 3 Advanced.

  • Source basis: Mulholland (2002), pp. 2-263–2-266.
  • Alt text: One calculation uses yield and aerosol extinction, while another directly uses optical density per mass of fuel lost.
  • Accuracy notes: Do not connect Km and Dm with a direct equality; retain separate fuel and aerosol masses.
