Summary

Equal opening areas can give different ventilation factors when their heights differ. Based on Walton and Thomas (2002), pp. 3-174, 3-177.

Original illustration for Ventilation factor, level 3 Advanced.

  • Source basis: Walton and Thomas (2002), pp. 3-174, 3-177; illustrative geometric changes to source example.
  • Alt text: The original factor is 1.449, the wider opening gives 2.898, and an equal-area lower opening gives 1.025.
  • Accuracy notes: The two altered geometries are illustrative, not measured fire tests; retain identical scale for silhouettes.
