Emiel van Rossum

With over two decades of experience in the fire safety industry, Emiel van Rossum brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to Fire Safety Academy. Starting his career in 2002 as a CAD drafter, Emiel demonstrated a keen interest in fire safety design and soon transitioned into consultancy roles, offering expert advice on fire safety measures. Despite not having a formal degree at the outset, he educated himself throughout his career, acquiring deep expertise through dedication and hands-on experience.

Emiel also served as a fire safety officer at a municipal office, honing his skills in both regulatory frameworks and practical implementation. His self-driven education and progression in the field highlight his commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

In 2013, Emiel founded the Dutch Brandpreventie Academy, where he dedicated himself to teaching and sharing his extensive experience with aspiring fire safety professionals. Building on this success, he established the Fire Safety Academy in 2025, extending his educational reach to a broader international audience.

As an accomplished author, Emiel has written numerous Dutch books on fire safety and one in English-language “Introduction to Fire Safety Engineering.” His contributions to literature reflect his deep-seated passion for the subject and his desire to disseminate knowledge.

Emiel’s teaching style is fueled by his enthusiasm for fire safety, which shines through in every lecture. Over the years, he has transitioned from a code-based, regulatory approach to a more science-focused methodology, giving him a broad and nuanced understanding of the field.
