Introduction
The NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) course offered by Fire Safety Academy is an intensive, in-person training program designed to thoroughly prepare fire safety professionals for the CFPS certification exam. Although this course is not organized by the NFPA itself, it is expertly structured around the competencies and knowledge areas that the NFPA’s Certified Fire Protection Specialist credential demands.
Participants will benefit from direct, face-to-face instruction, interactive discussions, and a blend of theoretical and practical exercises aimed at strengthening their understanding of key fire protection concepts. Delivered at an undergraduate level, the program leverages custom-developed course materials to supplement your learning, ensuring participants gain both a strong foundational understanding and the confidence to excel in the CFPS exam.
Please note that while comprehensive printed course materials are included, the “Fire Protection Handbook, 21st Edition” is not provided as part of the course fee and should be purchased separately.
Who Should Attend
This course is tailored for fire safety professionals, engineers, consultants, and technical staff who already have practical, hands-on experience in the field and are now aiming to formalize their expertise through recognized certification. It is ideal for those who value face-to-face learning, guided discussions, and the opportunity to engage with expert instructors and peers. By choosing this program, participants immerse themselves in a focused learning environment that allows them to fully prepare for the rigors of the CFPS exam, ensuring they are ready to advance their careers and confidently demonstrate their capabilities in fire protection.
Course Content
The program is delivered in two primary segments—first establishing a theoretical foundation, followed by focused exam preparation and practice sessions. In the theoretical portion, participants explore the fundamentals of fire science, from the chemistry and physics of fire to an understanding of building construction, structural fire resistance, and the behavior of smoke and heat. Emphasis is placed on analyzing occupancy hazards, understanding the principles of fire detection and alarm systems, and examining both water-based and special hazard suppression solutions. Alongside these technical aspects, the curriculum delves into life safety design, egress considerations, and the regulatory frameworks that guide modern fire protection practices, with particular attention given to relevant NFPA codes and standards.
Once participants gain a solid theoretical grounding, the course transitions into exam-oriented training. This second part offers guidance on the exam format, question interpretation, time management, and strategic test-taking techniques. Students work through practice questions, engage in guided review sessions, and complete a full-length mock examination. Personalized feedback helps pinpoint areas of improvement, ensuring that all participants leave the course with a clear action plan, renewed confidence, and the comprehensive knowledge required to succeed on the CFPS exam.
